Minnesota, specifically the Twin Cities metro, has lately been a frequent presence on "Best of" lists. A record number of tourists have visited, with optimistic expectations for the future. Perhaps you're at the point in your relationship with your home state when it could use a little "tlc", when you need a little reminder about why you choose to spend your precious days living here and not on some remote, lush island. Or perhaps you're thinking of making our lovely state your home but need that last little push. Well, summer in MN is certainly the time to make that important decision. It's a time when the many layers of sunscreen and bug spray meld together to create a magical salve that heals all remaining scars of the perpetual winters of yore. The remedy is of course to get out and explore!

While there are of course many parks, museums, shops and restaurants to explore - enough lists exist elsewhere. We'd like to suggest a few new modes of exploration.

  • Take a Segway tour (YES, a Segway)! Venture east to Stillwater and check out the beautiful new, multi-million dollar bridge that has drastically improved Stillwater's notorious traffic. In little more than an hour, you'll take in fantastic bluff views and gain a new life skill. After your tour, stick around for some unique shopping and food.

  • Get on board and venture out on the water while it's still running ice-free! Kayak, paddleboard, or luxury yacht - It's really up to you!

  • Wheel Fun Rentals operates user-friendly rental stands at multiple locations throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul – this is memory-making at its simplest.

  • If you're an experienced paddler, you might consider utilizing the new Paddle Share program.

  • For guided tours, check out Minnesota Adventure Co.Wahoo Adventures, or Broken Paddle Guiding. Many local parks and community programs offer introductory sessions and rentals as well.

  • Lake Minnetonka has a few different charter companies – we'll leave the Google-ing to you.

  • Opt for a staycation where you get to experience a different side of the cities and rent through airbnb or VRBO! Live your fantasy life for a weekend.

  • Check out a new farmer's market! Perhaps you go to the same one regularly, which is perfectly rational, or maybe you've never heard of it. The Star Tribune has a great compiled list of 60 (!!), with the downtown St. Paul Farmer's Market and downtown Minneapolis Farmer's Market being the most well-known.

While summer's orange cones and resulting traffic nightmares are enough to drive one crazy – she makes up for it with her fantastic sun and heat. Renew your zest for life and your hometown now, while the going's easy. Winter's coming fast, folks.
